Photography Workshop: DSLR Basics

We’ve all been there. We get a new DSLR and intend to use it, but it stays on “Auto” mode or we end up shooting with our phones instead.

Your camera is a powerful tool, and I want to help you understand how it works. This 3-week workshop aims to get you OUT of Auto mode and encourage you to shoot every single day. Students will get PDFs of all of the presentations, one-on-one help, & feedback on their homework for up to a month following the workshop.

Total price for in-person workshop and all course materials: 100 JD

The workshop will consist of 3 sessions on Mondays in November:

  • Session 1: November 4th - Learning about your camera. Understanding which buttons do what. Introduction to the Exposure Triangle. Practicing with Aperture Priority Mode.

  • Session 2: November 11th - Understanding ISO and Shutter Speed. Practicing with Shutter Speed Priority mode.

  • Session 3: November 18th - Putting it all together. Shooting in Manual. Working with challenging light.

  • OPTIONAL Session 4: The final class will be a photo shoot at the Citadel at 4 pm on November 23rd, where students can practice with models and learn from me at the same time.

Depending on enrollment and student availability, I may have a morning group (11-12:30) and an evening group (7-8:30 pm). Minimum 3 students, maximum 5 per group.

Prerequisites:

-Ideally you own a DSLR camera (with different lenses to go with it). Any camera that has a manual mode is acceptable, though. Contact me if you aren’t sure what you have.

-Ideally you will have about 3-4 hours per week to spend on homework assignments, but if you get behind, you can finish up after the class is over.
